Why use us for your payroll registration?

Payroll registrations are intensive and time-consuming. We’ve provided some detailed information further down, but in a nutshell:

  • PAYE registration is required for every business and you also need to submit a monthly EMP201 return.
  • Income tax registration for everyone who works for your company can be a constant administrative chore. And it needs to be done accurately to avoid penalties.
  • UIF registration and UIF contributions place a monthly time and resource requirement on your company. Strict regulations need to be met.
  • The Skills Development Levy needs to be paid and accreditation gained for all courses that your employees attend.
  • You are responsible for providing accurate, complete Workmans Compensation Assurance information, with annual payments.

All of this places a significant administrative burden on your company. Rather let us take care of it for you.

More information on Payroll Registration

Here’s some more information to help you understand the full extent of payroll registration requirements.

Application for registration of PAYE / SDL / UIF requires your business to indicate the following:

  • income tax number of your business
  • your SETA code
  • your company registration number (if applicable)
  • the nature of the main activity of you business

Once you have completed UIF registration with SARS, you also need to contact the Department of Labour to register your UIF details.

PAYE registration

If you employ people you are required to register for PAYE. The definition of employees includes anyone who provides a service to your business in return for compensation and acts under the control of your company.

PAYE registration is a once-off process, and from then on you must provide an EMP201 PAYE return every month. These returns must be accurate otherwise SARS can apply stringent penalties.

UIF payment

All businesses are required to register for UIF. UIF payments are made monthly, directly to SARS. Other employee reporting is made to the Department of Labour. UIF contributions are split between the company and the employee. Each pays 1% of the employee’s salary as a UIF contribution - this is capped at a maximum amount.

Skills Development Levy

A SETA code is used to accredit a business for the courses that its employees attend in the development of their skills. It applies to those businesses that have a total salary cost of R500 000 or greater. These businesses pay a 1% SDL (Skills Development Levy).

Workmans Compensation Assurance

As an employer you must ensure that all the information provided to the Workmans Compensation Fund is accurate, complete and submitted by 31 March each year.

The Return of Earnings (Form WAS.8) differentiates between earnings of normal employees and those of the business owners, and is payable on assessment.

This amount is calculated according to the qualifying salaries and the nature of the business. High-risk businesses like construction, logging and mining companies pay higher premiums.
